Amritsar, JNN Two more associates of notorious Hizbul Mujahideen militant Hilal Ahmed Vej have been arrested in Punjab. Jaswant Singh and Ranjit Singh have been arrested by Sadar police from Gurdaspur. The mobile numbers of the two were found on Hilal and Virwar from the mobiles of Vikram Singh alias Vicky and Maninder Singh alias Mani who were caught in Amritsar. At the same time, raids have been carried out in Tarn Taran in search of terrorists.
The investigation has revealed that Hilal of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir was in touch with drug smugglers in Punjab at the behest of his advisor Riaz Ahmed Naiku. After paying for the shipment of heroin and weapons from Pakistan, the payment was sent to his organization.
Vikram, Maninder, Jaswant and Ranjith have been remanded in police custody for four days while Hilal has been remanded in judicial custody, police officials said. He is also being questioned by National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials. The phone numbers of the four were in Hilal's mobile. Police are now searching for the smuggler Ranjit Singh and Sarwanan Singh of Amritsar himself. Both are in direct contact with Pakistani smugglers.
Police had arrested Sadar police on the evening of April 25 along with drugs worth Rs 29 lakh. Hilal was traveling in a truck with the money he owed to Hezbollah commander Naiku. Vikram gave the money to Hilal. Police arrested Vikram and Maninder on Thursday along with heroin and Rs 29 lakh.
